of Wales

An exhibition following the artist's year long circumnavigation of Wales, featuring recollections of visitations and the inclusion of holy relics.

Following in the footsteps of the Welshman Gerald de Barri by creating a circumnavigation of Wales.*
Commencing in Hereford and journeying through south Wales, along her west coast to St David's, through mid Wales, northwards to Snowdonia, and finally east to complete the cycle at Gerald's former diocese of Brecon.
Re-exploring historic institutional centres of theocratic power: cathedrals, churches and monasteries, but also uncovering the universal ancient power imbued within the landscape.

* In 1188 de Barri (also known as Giraldus Cambrensis or Gerald of Wales), the Archdeacon of Brecon, accompanied Baldwin, the Archbishop of Canterbury to undertake a preaching tour of Wales in order to gain support for the Third Crusade. His book, The Journey Through Wales, written in Latin, and describing this mission, is considered to be Wales' seminal historical travelogue. Alongside its detailed record of contemporary life, the work embraces a panoply of Christian scriptures, Paganism, classical Greek literature, folklore, superstition and hearsay.
