Graham PhillipsGraham Phillips is a Cardiff based painter whose work resonates between existential ideas and spiritual ones. The two may appear as incompatible realms with the anxious often seaming overwhelming. His paintings sometimes contain the figure and are sometimes wholly abstract. This resonance and flipping between the existential and the spiritual, and, the abstract and figurative are both reaffirming and fragmentary. The result is often seen as both hunting and soothing. Contrary to what might be called a social absence, his work connects us at some basic level that is beyond primal or primitive art, and that contains a context partially removed from what a contextual artist might call its idiom.

My name is Zaeger Jones… I am a 32 year-old artist from Caerphilly - who uses a wide variety of media such as-spray paints, acrylics, oil pastels, collage & marker pens upon various surfaces to create an admittedly 'peculiar' sort of art. The imagery I conjure up is rarely straightforward & can initially be seen as something akin to rebuses, regardless of how I am attempting to express my thoughts and feeling this comes in close to the imperative which is how an audience might intrepret my work. During the creative process, the notion behind the making usually stems from somewhere deeply personal & emotive inside myself, but once completed I find it fascinating when a person is able to somehow connect with the work by way of a visual key that unlocks a memory. That persons interpretation my be way off the mark but will somehow enhance what I aimed to express visually. What matters is what the viewer actually sees. Which,in a way makes the titles of each painting that I do useless I guess?! Anyway, the things that inspire me most are my dreams, my hopes & fears, the things I love, the things I hate, my memories & the observations that I make about modern life and my life in particular… ZJ/8
